Petersburg

Petersburg is located on Mitkof Island in the heart of the Inside Passage and the Tongass National Forest. It is home to over 3,000 permanent residents and known for its busy fishing harbor and Norwegian heritage. Coho Salmon fill the waters around Petersburg in abundance each summer and Norwegian culture is celebrated annually in May at Petersburg’s Little Norway Festival. Petersburg also boasts pristine walking and hiking trails, incredible flightseeing trips over the coastal mountains, beautiful kayaking locations, wonderful whale watching opportunities, and access to LeConte Glacier, the southernmost tidewater glacier in North America. If you want to experience Alaska in the summer without be crowded out by large cruise ships, this is the destination for you!
